The Jolly Hotel St Ermin's was originally built as mansion flats in 1887. It wasn't until 1905 that is was delevoped in to a hotel. Due to its proximity to the Houses of Parliament it became popular with members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The baroque staircase in the main lounge, houses a secret passageway which was frequently used by Polititcians calling Members of Parliament to vote when the Devision Bell sounded, which is located in the lobby, and was connected at the House of Commons.
