stay The Hempel Hotel is famous for being the first and only shrine to Zen minimalism in London. Behind its elegant facade of stucco-fronted Georgian townhouses, those clean lines still exist though now with a few more features and relaxing touches that make it feel a lot less clinical and much more warm and inviting. This same style statement continues in the hotel's guestrooms. Each of the hotel's 44 rooms, suites and 6 private apartments are lean, clean and spare. Beds are set on platforms, bathtubs are hewn from blocks of black granite or pale limestone and the bare wood floorboards are wide, limed and lacquered. But make no mistake; there's nothing minimalist or monastic about the Hempel's in-room creature comforts. The Frette bed linen is silkily crisp and cool, the sofas plumply inviting and the mini-bars a marvel of pampering sophistication. relax eat / drink meet |
